Water Damage

Towne will extract the water and take steps to ensure that the source of the water is identified and repaired. We will dry the area with air movers and dehumidifiers and check the walls and other areas for damage which may not be visible. During the drying process, we will use specially designed meters to measure the moisture levels and continue the drying until the moisture levels reach a satisfactory range.

We will, if necessary, write an itemized estimate using industry standard software to submit to your insurance company describing the repairs required to restore your home.

If there is evidence of mold, we will test for the extent of the growth and the kind of mold and determine the best course of treatment. If your contents have been damaged, we will pack them, clean them and store them. We will guarantee that your home and contents will be free of odor and we promise that your home will be better than it was before the water damage.
  • Extract water as soon as possible to prevent damage to carpet and floor
  • Begin drying to reduce growth of mold
  • Remove moisture to facilitate odor control
  • I have water in my basement... what do I do now?
  • Call your agent or your insurance company to report the loss. Then call Towne for emergency water extraction at 574-295-2174. We are available 24/7 to remove water and dry affected areas. Towne is certified by the IICRC the governing body of the insurance restoration industry (www.iicrc.com)

  • Should I start removing things from the area?
  • Keep in mind that you risk electric shock if you're standing in water and come in contact with electricity. Put safety first.

  • Will my insurance company pay for Towne to extract the water right away, or do I have to get an estimate?
  • Generally insurance companies prefer prompt action to remove water. They recognize that the quicker the water is removed the less chance there is for significant damage. One caveat: many policies do not cover damage from ground water. Check with your agent to confirm your coverage.

  • You say you can remove the water immediately... what about the damage to my floors and furniture?
  • An accurate assessment of the damage cannot be made until the drying out process is complete. For example, hardwood floors may buckle and need to be replaced, and this may not be apparent at first. Once the drying process is complete, Towne will prepare an estimate for your insurance company describing the damage. We can repair structural damage such as damage to walls, refinish furniture, paint, restore damaged electronics and clean contents. Items that cannot be repaired will be listed, and the insurance company will reimburse you for those items.

  • I'm worried about mold. Will my policy cover mold damage?
  • Some policies do and some don't. The best thing to do is ask your agent.

  • After a bad snow storm I had water marks on the bedroom ceiling. My roof looks OK. Where did the water come from? Will my insurance company pay for the damage?
  • The water is most likely the result of an ice and snow dam at the edge of your roof. Generally the reason ice and snow dams form is the presence of warm air in the space under the roof. This warm air causes the layer of snow against the shingles to melt, but as it reaches the edge of the roof, it encounters a ridge of snow that is still frozen. The water is trapped and is eventually forced back under the shingles and into your home. The standard homeowner's policy covers this kind of water damage. The best prevention? Make sure your attic is well-insulated to keep warm air from reaching the roof.
