What caused the mold to start growing in my house?
Mold spores are always present. When adequate moisture becomes available, they begin to grow within 24-48 hours.
I see mold on my walls. Is it likely to be growing anywhere else in my home?
Mold grows on drywall, plaster, plywood, insulation, wood, fabric, paper, and other organic materials. Frequently it
can grow behind walls in water-damaged areas.
What happens if I don't eradicate the mold?
Mold can cause health problems including allergic reactions, asthma attacks, infections, and respiratory damage. It
can also cause wood to become weak and rotten and result in structural damage.
What should I do to prevent these problems from developing?
First, remove the moisture as quickly as possible and prevent more moisture from accumulating. Reduce the humidity.

Can I use fans to dry an area with mold?
The fans will help with drying, but they will also spread the mold spores through the air.
Will bleach get rid of mold?
Generally, bleach is effective on nonporous surfaces like glass or metal. However, materials that are porous (absorb and hold water) like drywall require other kinds of cleaning processes or may need to be removed and replaced.
Should I stay in my house if I have mold?
It depends on the extent of mold growth. If testing indicates a serious problem you may have to move out while the
mold is being eradicated.
