Carpet Cleaning And Upholstery Cleaning

Most carpet manufacturers recommend that you clean your carpets and upholstery every 12-18 months. Even if the carpet and upholstery looks clean, dust and soil collect below the surface. The abrasion that takes place during normal wear damages the fibers and reduces the life of your carpet and furniture.

Towne uses a multi-step process to give you the cleanest carpet possible. First, we evaluate the carpet and upholstery for spots and stains and we examine the traffic areas for extra soiling. Then we pre-treat those areas that need it. Next we apply the heated cleaning solution to break up soil and loosen oil deposits. Finally the rinse washes the soil and cleaning solution from the carpet/upholstery and our powerful truck-mounted vacuum extracts the rinse. Your carpet/upholstery is clean and residue-free.

We recommend the application of a carpet protector. Most new carpet has a carpet protector applied during the manufacturing process. But with foot traffic and vacuuming, the protection wears off over time. Reapplying the protector extends the life of your carpet and makes it easier to care for.
Stain Removal Tips
  • Treat the stain as quickly as possible.
  • Read the directions on the spot cleaner carefully to be sure it's the right product for your stain.
  • Blot or scrape the entire area before treating with any cleaning solution.
  • Test the spot cleaner in an inconspicuous spot.
  • Work from the outside of the stain toward the inside to avoid spreading the stain.
  • Blot up the moisture with a clean white cloth and coax the nap up to a standing position.
  • Ask Towne Inc. about applying carpet protector.
  • Will water ruin my carpet?
  • No. Water will not ruin your carpet unless too much moisture remains in the carpet for a long period of time. Our powerful vacuums extract the water as well as the cleaning solution and the dirt.

  • I've heard it's best to wait as long as possible before cleaning new carpeting. Is that true?
  • No. Most carpet manufacturers recommend cleaning your carpet at least once a year. The buildup of dirt in the carpet combined with the abrasive effects of traffic damage the carpet.

  • Is it true that once you clean a carpet it gets dirty quicker?
  • No. Our powerful vacuums remove the dirt and residue. Residue left in the carpet from improper cleaning can cause quicker re-soiling.

  • I have carpeting that is 10 years old. Why do the traffic areas always look dirtier than the other areas?
  • If you notice this even after the carpet has been cleaned, it is due to wear. Constant foot traffic crushes the carpet fibers and even the best cleaning process will not restore the carpet fibers to a "like new" condition. The best defense against crushing is to rearrange the furniture so traffic patterns are changed, or add area rugs to the traffic areas.

  • How long will it take my carpet to dry?
  • This depends on the type of carpet and the relative humidity in your home. In general, it takes 3-12 hours to dry. You can walk on the carpet during this time if necessary, but it's best to remove your shoes to avoid re-soiling the carpet. Be sure to leave the protective pads under the furniture legs until the carpet is completely dry.
